Doris. Loving, Kind, Heartfelt, Supportive, Beautiful, Strong, Creative, Clever, Spunky, Fun-Loving, Fighter/Survivor, Faithful, A Blessing. Doris was all of these things and lived them in her daily life. Everyone who knew her would describe her in this way.
Doris was born July 15, 1933 in Champlain, New York. She passed on January 26, 2024. Doris is preceded in death by her parents Lillian Marguerite LaRoche and Romeo Pierre Guay and her husband, Richard James Reimiller. She is survived by her brother, Roland Guay and sister, Rachel (Guay) Davis.
Doris is also survived by her children; Elizabeth Ann Reimiller Felter (John), Rachel Jean Reimiller St. Pierre (George III), Doris Guay Reimiller Quintero (Daniel), Richard James Reimiller Jr, (Heather). Her 9 grandchildren; Catherine (Brennen), Julia, Laura, Jacqueline, Nicole (Luis), Danielle (Rhys), Cristina (James), Caleb and Jacob, and 5 great-granddaughters; Isabella, Ella, Mya, Grace and Primrose.
In Doris' early years she worked in the resorts in the Catskill mountains in New York, where she honed her top-notch server skills. She started working for the Marriott Corporation in the Hot Shoppes division where she met her husband, Richard. It was a whirlwind romance and after 6 weeks of dating they married on May 19, 1956. They were married just shy of their 65th wedding anniversary when Richard passed. Doris became a stay-at-home mom, which she cherished, when her 1st child was born. She was the ultimate partner and mom. She never shied away from any challenge. She supported her family by making their clothes, canning fruits and vegetables, mowing the lawn, painting the house and building a barn without blueprints, becoming a Girl Scout, 4H, band and chorus mom. Upon her husband's retirement from his first career the family moved to Florida in 1978.
In 1988 Doris became a Seminole County Public Schools volunteer. She volunteered for her 2 daughters who were teachers in the county. Doris was honored every year by the county for accumulating 1000+ volunteer hours. Doris loved the children. This was a great source of joy for her. She taught many a kindergartener and 1st grader how to make quilts among many other skills. She was honored by the state of Florida for her dedication to students by naming her the "Senior Volunteer of the Year". Through her volunteering she encountered many children who were migrants and many living in poverty. This impacted her and she vowed to make sure she was able to donate food, clothing, and toys to these families.
Another great source of her joy was her family. Doris cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She made things happen! At Christmas, her favorite holiday, she would dress up as Santa and visit her grandchildren on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. She couldn’t get enough of their little smiling faces when "Santa" came knocking!
Doris was an active member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. She along with her late husband, Richard (Dick) took on many leadership and mentoring roles. Doris and Richard were inducted into “The Order of St. Mary Magdalen” in 2008, for their years of volunteer service at the annual Community Fest. and more. She and Richard were instrumental in strengthening the Cursillo Movement. She sponsored many women as they made their Cursillo retreats. She later supported Richard in the kitchen to provide the meals for parish and Cursillo retreats. Once she and Richard moved to their retirement community and worshiped at St Ann’s Catholic Church, she and Richard established Cursillo there.
Doris was a bit of thing! But she was a powerhouse, a force to be reckoned with, a survivor, a fighter. Her courage, strength, and sheer determination and faith propelled her forward and shaped her life in so many ways. As well as the lives of her family, many school children, and all those she encountered who were seeking faith or just simply a smile and a hug and a "God Bless You!"
