
Frances Virginia Hurst Murray, 87, of Altamonte Springs, FL passed away on September 3, 2017 at Wuestoff Memorial Hospital following a long battle with a meningioma brain cancer. She died peacefully surrounded by her four children. Frances was born in Enid, Ok. on Oct. 3, 1929. She is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority where she served as secretary. She was a huge Sooner football fan! So much so, that in the event the Sooners lost to Texas or Nebraska, she refused to cook dinner After graduating from the University of Oklahoma, she moved to Washington D.C. to work for the National Security Agency. While working in D.C., she met the love of her life, her husband, Richard Davis Murray, Sr. a Naval Aviator. They married in 1955. Frances and Richard went on to have four children and were stationed all over the country from Hawaii to Puerto Rico. Frances was very active in Navy Relief programs and volunteered hundreds of hours serving the communities in which she lived. They settled in Altamonte Springs, Florida in 1973 when her husband retired from the U.S. Navy. Frances was an avid quilter. She enjoyed making quilts for her children and friends when they were expecting children. She took great pride in her quilting. Frances made all types of quilts, however her most beautiful were her Hawaiian quilts. She learned this craft while the family was stationed in Hawaii. She also made quilts for children with cancer for Paul Newman’s the "Hole in the Wall Gang Camp”. She also enjoyed attending national quilting meetings with her great friend Miriam Wright and attended meetings of the Florida Star Quilters and Cabin Fever Guild. Frances served as a Republican Executive Committee member. Fran loved to travel, especially to England and Scotland to see her daughter and grandson as well as take cruises with her family. Her favorite vacation, however, was close to home, at Satellite Beach, Florida. This was the annual family beach trip when she would teach her grandchildren to make all kinds of dishes like sushi, stuffed shells and many more. Fran enjoyed a life well lived and loved to attend her grandchildren's events. Frances is survived by her four children: Richard Davis Murray, Jr.; Alison K. Murray; Myra Murray Toeppe (William) and Leslie Murray Sherrill (James). Additionally, she is survived by her sister Carolyn Duncan, Brother Robert C. Hurst, deceased, Sister in Law Elaine Bazinet, She is also survived by nine grandchildren - Robert, Nicole, Christopher, Richard Davis Murray III ( aka Trey), William (aka Sergei), Jonathan, James (aka Ruslan), Melissa and Antonia, Frances is also survived by three great grandchildren Josiah, Jonathan and Caroline. She is survived by her nieces and nephews Kathy Fieber ( Rick ), David Fieber, Melanie Holden (Richard), Bryan Holden, Whitney Holden Lupo (Christopher), Matthew Allen, Jeffrey Tognascioli (deceased), Lauren Daem, Kelley Hurst, Elinor Hurst, Michael Bazinet ( Lise) and their children Michelle and Nicole
