He was appointed as a member of the Seminole State Board of Trustees in 2011 and as Chairman of the Seminole County Early Learning Coalition by Governor Rick Scott. Bauer also served as a member of the Seminole State College Foundation and the Florida Early Learning Council. He also served as a member of the Central Florida Zoo Board of Directors, CALNO, and was a graduate of Leadership Seminole, Class of 2002.
