The names chosen for Jonathan were not done idly. They came from his Christian parents, David and Jo Ann Mould, and have specific meaning. Wanting another warrior for Christ, they named their last child Jonathan. This was in memory and deep admiration of the warrior whose boldness in invading the Philistine camp with only an armor-bearer, never left his father’s mind. In contrast with David’s contest with Goliath, about which every Sunday-school or Sabbath-school teacher has spent hours transmitting to their students, his father felt that the bravery of David’s friend Jonathan had been sadly overlooked. As for his middle name, Churchill, that was in honor of another warrior, Sir Winston Churchill, whose voice and indomitable spirit led Britain through the horrors of World War II. “Never, never, never surrender,” are not just Churchill’s words, they are the creed by which his parents live, and which they sought to instill in all their children. Jonathan Churchill Mould was born on March 8th, 1991, and was the adored baby brother to four brothers and one sister. From this protected haven emerged one of the most caring friends—with the brightest smile—that anyone could ask for.
Jonathan was a free spirit and grew up playing in the open fields and the woods that enclosed his country home in De Land, Florida. He spent hours studying the fascinating ants and he claimed all 12 of the family dogs as his own. He traveled the world not only through the books he read but by personally visiting many countries. One day his father wisely placed a camera in his hands to engage his mind so that a video-game controller would not. He loved nature’s beauty and bright-eyed animals and he loved His Creator.
He was blessed to grow up in a supportive, church family and, at 9 years of age, he committed his life to Jesus Christ and was baptized into the Maranatha Seventh-day Adventist church. He followed the Mould tradition of playing a musical instrument, and soon honored God with violin solos and also joined heart and voice with his friends in the youth choir. He fondly remembered mission trips to Jamaica when he, his brother, Adam, along with friends, experienced the sweet fulfillment of helping others.
He completed first grade at Forest Lake Elementary Education Center (FLEEC) in Longwood, Florida, and from second grade to 12th grade, he acquired the finest teachers a boy could have—his mother and father. Under his father’s tutelage he excelled in math and his mother gently guided his creative mind in many other subjects. In time, he became fast friends, rather, brother to fellow “homeschoolers” Junior, Marlon and Adrian (Bingham) and Joshua and Ayana (Smith), and others. In his earlier days he’d wanted to become a veterinarian but his love for people prevailed and soon after graduating he pursued his Associate of Science in Nursing degree at Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tennessee, where he gained many more friends.
His polite professionalism enhanced Southern’s Enrollment Services department and he had many adventures with his patients at an Alzheimer's home in Tennessee, Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami, and at Florida Hospital East in Orlando. He loved all his patients and they loved him.
He relished deep thoughts, words of wisdom and he wrote poetry. Because he cared, no one slipped by Jonathan’s pretty hazel eyes. He loved helping others and his friends knew that if they needed something, he would be there—day or night. This was the caring person behind Jonathan M. Photography, his budding photography business. This lover of the beautiful captured the best in others, for, as he said, “Life is not a matter of milestones, but of moments.”
Jonathan Mould went to rest early Sunday morning, May 29, and awaits the best moment of them all—the glorious resurrection. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving parents, David and Jo Ann Mould; adoring brothers: Marc (Siobhan), Daniel (Vicky), Stephen (Monique), and Adam (Ariel); hopeful sister, Kshama; faithful grandmothers: Joyce Mould and Hope Farquharson; adored nieces and nephews: Kaitlyn, Madison, Alianna, Axanna, Aaron and Aaron; beloved aunts and uncles, many fun-loving cousins, his many “mothers” including Marcia Bingham and Kaye Smith, and hundreds of “best” friends.
While we miss the energetic young man and our hearts are heavy over this sudden loss, we thank God for blessing us with the gift of Jonathan and we look forward to the day when “the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first” (1 Thessalonians 4:16).
Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
