Lillian Doreen Dummett was born on May 6, 1925 in Bartica, Guyana. She was the second of three children born to Millicent Amelia and Clifford Adolphus Dummett. After attending school in Guyana, she immigrated to Leicster, England to pursue a degree in nursing. Once that was accomplished, she moved to London and worked at the Salvation Army Hospital as a Registered Nurse.
In 1968, Doreen immigrated to New York and worked at Brookdale Hospital Center as a Registered Nurse. She remained there until the time of her retirement. In Brooklyn, she was a faithful member of Hanson Place SDA church for almost 50 years. Several years after retiring, she decided to move to the warmer climate of Florida and moved to Apopka. It is here, after an illness, that she quietly took her final rest on March 20, 2022.
Aunt Doreen loved to travel. She kept a wall-sized map in her bedroom and would put pins into all the cities and countries that she had travelled to. She practiced tough-love and was never one to be shy about her opinions. She loved her nieces and nephews and spoiled them whenever she could. She was the one person you could always count on to “have your back”.
She is predeceased by both parents, her older brother Kenneth Dummett, and her sisters Vida Dummett and Ismay Austin. She is survived by her younger brother Dr. Bruce Dummett and her loving cousin and travel buddy Sarah Baptiste.
She leaves behind nieces and nephews including Robert, Claire, Owen, John, Jocelyn, Leyland, Walter, Gavin, Michael and Holly. She also leaves behind many great-grand nieces and nephews and a host of friends and family.
She will be missed but our love for her will never dim.
