
Smoot, Marvin 87, passed away on March 20, 2015. He was born in Polk County, FL in 1927 to Jesse and Lagatha Smoot. After graduating from Haines City High in 1945 he entered the Merchant Marines sailing on ships delivering food to Europe. He later entered the Medical Corp of the US Army serving in Hospitals in Florida and Michigan. After graduation from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) he was called to active duty as an Officer with the US Air Force, Office of Special Investigations, serving in Virginia and Washington, DC. Upon release from the US Air Force he was employed by the US Navy as a Special Agent of Commission. Marvin served in Pensacola and Key West during the early 1960's to include the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Bay of Pigs Operation. He retired as a Senior Agent at Moffett Field in California in 1978. After living in Lake Tahoe he returned to Osceola County, FL in 1982 and where he married his wife, Shirley Johnson. He is survived by his dear wife, Shirley, and her children Gail (Steve) Birge and Wade (Marlene) Johnson, his daughters Kimberly Grimes, Shawn Sheer,his 2 sisters Blanche Porter of Titusville and Barbara Ann Johnson of Haines City. He also leaves his grandchildren Kristin (John) Zupancic, Wade, Kendall and Blake Johnson along with 7 other grandchildren. Marv was dearly loved by his wife and family and will be truly missed. The family will have an informal gathering on Wednesday, March 25 at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, Altamonte Springs from 6 to 8 pm to celebrate his life. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 28 at Highland Memory Gardens, Semoran Blvd., Apopka at 4 pm.
