Born on October 26, 1938, Dale lived a life defined by service, discipline, and deep devotion to his family and community.
Dale proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he built a distinguished career before retiring after 27 years. A true patriot, he carried deep pride in his service and in the nation. His years in the Air Force reflected the values he lived by throughout his life—strength, integrity, loyalty, and commitment.
Outside of his military career, Dale was widely respected in the martial arts community as a sixth-degree (Rokudan) black belt and Sensei in Judo. As the founder of the Orlando Judo Academy, he dedicated many years to teaching students not only the techniques of Judo but also the principles of respect, perseverance, and self-discipline. Through his guidance, he mentored countless individuals who carry forward the lessons he shared.
Above all, Dale was a devoted father, grandfather, uncle, and mentor who cherished time with his family. He is survived by his children, Jeannie, Thomas, and Steve; his beloved grandchildren, Kat, Lucas, Andrew, and Connor; his daughters-in-law, Jessica and Christina; his son-in-law, Chance; his niece, Masako, and her family; and his nephew, Hideyuki, and his family.
Dale found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed spending time with his dogs, loved watching western and action movies, and spent countless hours happily restoring cars—something he took great pride in and often shared with family and friends.
Dale Thompson will be remembered for his quiet strength, dedication to service, and passion for teaching. His legacy lives on through the family he loved and the many students whose lives he influenced through Judo.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
