All of Bills shipmates in VP-4 will miss him. Vp-4 was a eunique organization and thanks to people like Bill was the finest Patrol Squadron in the United States Navy- The reason for the squadrons excellence was due to the proffesional performance of folks like Bill. I was the Tacco in crew four at the same time and was quite familiar with Bill and his excellent reputation. Rest easy on your oars sailor and we all wish you smooth sailing. I served with Bill in USN Patrol Squadron Four (VP-4), 1961-63 at NAF Naha, Okinawa. He was a terrific shipmate in addition to being a highly qualified electronics technician. That he was able to parlay his US Navy electronics training into a highly successful career is testimony to his desire to perform to the best of his abilities. I am grateful that Dave "Ben" Greene and I had the opportunity to spend a memorable week visiting with Bill at his home in Daytona Beach a year ago.We knew time was running out for Bill so it was good to get together before the ravages of ALS took it's terrible toll.
Bill was one of the "good guys" who will always be remembered as such. 
I celebrate the life of this man with his family, friends and former shipmates.

I just found out about Bill's (Hairy) passing. Another one of my beloved VP4 shipmates has answered the final muster. I have fond memories of going on liberty with "Hairy" in a place called Naminoue, Okinawa. Rest in peace Hairy. Job well done. Fleener

Dear Kim and family, so sorry for your loss. Bill and I first met in San Diego while training at VP31 in 1961.We then were sent to VP4 where we became best of friends. After I left the Navy I visited Bill in 1965 in Daytona Beach and met his future wife Mary. Many years had past and Bill and I reunited in Jacksonville, Fla. at a VP4 reunion in 2011 and got to meet his daughter Kim. Last year Steve Andruszkewicz and I after learning of Bill's health went to Daytona Beach to spend time with him. I will miss him dearly and will never forget our long friendship.

It was my privelige to fly with Bill as an aircrewman in VP-4,

I always looked forward to the many emails that made me think as well as laugh. We were on the same page.  We only knew each other for a short time.   He was the strong kind of man I wish I would have meet 40 years ago.

Dear Kim and Family. So sorry for your loss.  Bill was always fun to talk to and made me smile every time we spoke. He is an awesome and inspiring man with all that he achieved.  He will always be with you and watch over you and your family with your Mom at his side.  They will be in a gentle breeze, or a familiar scent or a wonderful memory. We have all been blessed to have known him.

Bill hired me in 1982, and I am grieved to hear of his passing.  He was a great leader and a joy to be around. My prayers are with his loved ones; and we can be assured that Bill has gone ahead to be  'engineering analyst' in the heavenly realm. Bill was always a positive light in much of the NAVAIR darkness. His sense of humor always made me smile. He would show me his laugh line and i couldnt help but smile.

Kim, Your Dad and I have a mutual connection. You see, my father-in-law, Mr. Ed
Ek, was your Dad's academic advisor at Daytona Beach Community College (DBCC).
Your Dad and Ed had a common thread in that Bill had been a crew member on P2V Neptunes and Ed was a P2V pilot. They were both stationed at NAS Jax. At some later time your Dad enrolled in a technical program at DBCC. After reviewing His academic and military file, Ed saw your Dad's potential and worked with him to go on to UF in electrical engineering. And, as they say, the rest is history. 
Your Dad was a great person with a positive, upbeat personality. He also left the Navy in a stronger condition thanks to his lifetime contributions.

Bill and Gloria Duncan

Bill was one of the first people I met when I came to NAWCTSD (then NTSC) for an interview.  He was positive about my getting hired and I felt an instant rapport with Bill because we were both UF grads.  I eventually was hired into a branch under his division.  Bill could explain our projects to visitors in the most sincere and enthusiastic way, and he would always conduct staff meetings in an upbeat manner.

I remember the day we met; I was just ten years old. It was unmistakable the love and dedication you held toward family.  I'm lucky to have witnessed such a thing through the friendship of your equally considerate daughter.

Your dad will be greatly missed, as was your mother.  I have known your mother since 8th grade, and we were best friends all of high school, and continued our friendship until now.  We did not know your Dad until after they were married, but have been great friends with him as well.  We were there when our children got married and our grandchildren were born.  We always saw each other whenever we were in Florida, or when they were in Georgia.  We have great memories of both of them, and they will be greatly missed.  We all have a great loss, and I know it is so hard on you, Craig and Matthew.  We will keep all of you in our prayers.  We love you, Barbara

My 2nd dad growing up, may you rest in heavenly peace. I know you and Mary are enjoying long beautiful walks in paradise together while listening to some Jimmy Buffet in the background. I will carry all of the great memories of you and Mary with me for the rest of my life. I was so blessed to go on so many amazing boating trips with you, Mary and Kim growing up; such wonderful memories to last a lifetime.  Love you much, Jamie ?
