Barbara Jane Sanders Lundy, 83, passed away from this life leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and dedication to those she held dear. Born on June 15, 1942, in Winslow, Arizona, to Leslie Lloyd Sanders and Margarette Kathryn Sanders, Barbara was the oldest daughter in her family. After her father’s tragic work-related death when she was just 14, Barbara quickly stepped into a role of responsibility, helping her mother care for the family. Even at a young age, she showed the strength, loyalty, and hardworking spirit that would define her life. Barbara met the love of her life, Richard Lundy, while attending school in Dumas, Texas. They married in 1962 and after living in California for a time, they settled in Texas and built their life together. In May they celebrated 63 beautiful years together. Barbara was a lifelong learner, constantly curious and passionate about discovering new things. She loved learning about the newest technology, helpful gadgets to make your life easier, and hobbies of all kinds—from stained glass and cross-stitch to crochet and cooking. She was known for her joy in dancing around the kitchen, her love for family celebrations, and her enthusiasm for birthdays and holidays. Barbara worked various jobs over the years but found her niche as the Athletic Director’s Secretary at Borger High School—a position she held with dedication and pride until retirement. A devoted mother and grandmother, Barbara cherished her three children, three granddaughters and five grandsons. Her love for them was deep, and she delighted in supporting and celebrating each of them in their own unique journeys. Family was of the utmost importance to Barbara, and she and Richard made sure everyone in their family and extended family felt loved and supported. Barbara’s life was also grounded in her deep faith in God. A committed student of the Bible, she faithfully participated in Community Bible Study, personal devotionals, and local church life. Her faith was evident in the steady, courageous, and loving way she lived. In 2014, Barbara and her husband moved to Amarillo, but continued to nurture the deep friendships they had made over decades in Borger, Texas where they lived for 40 years. Barbara will be remembered for her strength, her generous heart, her keen mind, and her unwavering love for her family and faith. She leaves behind a powerful legacy of what it means to live a life of purpose, kindness, and grace.
Barbara is preceded in death by her father, Leslie Lloyd Sanders and mother, Margarette Sanders, brother Bobby Sanders, and sister Kathy Sanders Grumke.
