Barbara Jean Polk passed away December 5, 2020. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Memorial Park Funeral Home 6969 I - 40 E. from 5-8 pm. Funeral service will be Thursday, December 10, 2020 at 10 am at Central Church of Christ with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
She was born in Tucumcari, NM on November 9, 1935 to Lonnie and Lola Barber. Barbara, one of 11 children, was raised and attended school in San Jon, NM. On December 12, 1952, she married the love of her life Ray Polk at her grandparent’s ranch in Logan, NM. Shortly after, Ray and Barbara moved to Amarillo, TX where they raised their 4 children. Barbara ran a successful childcare business from her home for 25 years so that she could be a stay at home mom. Barbara spent every moment she could with Ray until his passing in 1996.
Barbara was a loving, caring, giving woman who absolutely adored her family, friends, and her church. She was the glue that held the family together, making sure that she taught her children and grandchildren the things that would make them successful in life. When she wasn’t spending time with her family, she enjoyed sewing clothes for all her grandkids and she loved creating new quilts with her daughters, granddaughters and sister. She will be missed by all who loved and called her Mom, sister, friend, Aunt Barb and most of all, everyone who called her Granny Bear.
She is preceded in death by her husband Andy “Ray” Polk; her son Leslie Polk, her daughter Pamela Rickard: her parents Lonnie and Lola Barber; and several siblings.
Left to cherish her memory is her children: Donald R. Polk and wife Crystal; Marketta Flowers and husband Doug and Irven Polk and wife Jennifer. Nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren along with other loving family members.
