Calvin was born on October 23, 1936, in Portales, New Mexico, to Dee and Virginia Fletcher. He built a life defined by hard work, skill, and a deep connection to the trucking community. Calvin worked as a diesel mechanic at Cummins and later took to the open road as an owner-operator, driving for Mercer and Melton. He eventually partnered with Red Higginbotham at Bypass Services, where he continued his work as a mechanic until his retirement. Known to many over the airwaves by his CB handle “BigFoot,” Calvin was a familiar and respected voice among truckers across the country.
Beyond his work, Calvin was a man of many talents and interests. He enjoyed leatherwork, woodworking, golf, and crossword puzzles. A true craftsman and master of do-it-yourself projects, he took great pride in building the family home on the south loop—creating not just a house, but a lasting legacy for those he loved.
Calvin is survived by his son, Delan Fletcher; his daughter, Mekala McGaha and her husband Gregg; and his stepsons, Brad Goodrum and his wife Lanita, Larry Goodrum and his wife Anita, Kelly Goodrum, and Kevin Seawright and his wife Kim. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren who will carry forward his memory and spirit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dee and Virginia Fletcher; his wives, Hermadene and Patsy; his brother, Bobby Fletcher; his sister, Katherine Beal; and his son, Ewain Fletcher.
Calvin will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his craftsmanship, his presence on the road, and the love he shared with his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, skill, and quiet pride that will not be forgotten.
