

Carlene Mitchell, age 87, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Mrs. Mitchell was born on December 22, 1936 in Paris, Texas to J.B. and Gladys Dickey. In 1953 she married Donald Rex Mitchell. They resided in Amarillo until 1979 when they built the home she designed in Fritch, Texas. After her husband's passing, she returned to Amarillo.
She worked as a secretary for Amarillo Air Conditioning and a real estate agent before owning and operating Carlene's Arts and Crafts in Fritch. She was a talented artist and taught art classes at Frank Phillips Community College, but she said her favorite job was being a mother and a homemaker.
Mrs. Mitchell enjoyed traveling with her husband and family. She maintained beautiful vegetable gardens and was a fabulous cook. She was most remembered by her family for her quick-witted humor, her even temperament, and her dedication to her family. She possessed an outstanding ability to assume the best in others, her loving artistic touch was present in everything she did.
She was proud to call herself a Christian and strongly believed in the power of prayer. She cherished every member of her family and always felt blessed to have her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters Betty Ogden, Edith Davis and Sherry Dickey and her brother Harold Dickey.
Survivors include her daughter Janet Fergerson; her sons Gary Mitchell and wife Jana, and David Mitchell and wife Kathy; her grandchildren, Melissa Carver, Jessica Fergeron, Judd Fergerson, Dustin Mitchell, Marshall Mitchell, Kallie Kosc and Makinzie Mitchell; 13 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and a sister Delores Justice and numerous extended family members whom she loved.

A visitation for Carlene will be held Sunday, April 7, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 I- 40 E, Amarillo, Texas 79118. A funeral service will occur Monday, April 8, 2024 at 10:00 AM at South Georgia Baptist Church, 5209 S. Georgia St, Amarillo, Texas. Burial will occur Monday, April 8, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Memorial Park Cemetery, 6969 I- 40 E, Amarillo, Texas 79118.
