Carla often said the day she started working for the Amarillo Southwestern Bell was a great day. She began with Directory Assistance and then became a cord board Long Distance Operator. In the 60's we moved to Lubbock and she was promoted to Chief Operator for a number of years. In 1981 they asked her to make a complete career change and she became Staff Supervisor of all the buildings in the Amarillo area. She did an amazing job and retired from SWB in 1986 after 32 years of service.
Survivors include daughters, Jimmie Lou Patterson of Winnsboro and Tambrey Sims of Katy. Also her precious sister, Sherl Blair of Crowley;
10 grandchildren and 22 great grand children and several nieces and nephews who always thought Aunt Carla was great!
Many she loved have gone before her: Her loving husband, Jim Daniels, sons Ricky Daniels, Robert Warton and Jim Daniels, Jr. and daughter, Sue Lightfoot. She was the eldest of 10 and from what I understand might of been somewhat 'bossy'. Mary Alice, Royce, Andrew, Zollie, Bill, Don, David, and Bobby Joe Warren preceded her in death.
She and Jim met in January of 1946 and married that October. She and dad had very strong work ethics and their life reflected their commitment to Christ. They were very supportive of their extended family. They were not joiners but they impacted many lives throughout the years. Over the years many people stayed in their home, there was always an extra plate available at supper, they helped older people by making repairs, helping them with income tax, lawn care, taking them to the store or doctor or out to eat, or just by having a cup of coffee with them and being a friend.
For the last 8 years because of health issues mom lived at Colonial Oaks Senior Living in Katy. Their care for her and her interaction with them was amazing. They became family. She was supportive and affirming to those who cared for her even through the extreme times in the last year.
In 1973 a friend of mine was so inspired by her, she wrote her a poem. I think this excerpt reflects some of how Carla lived her life. "The words you spoke to me these few times we have met have brought more color even than the summer rainbows. For I am touched that you would care - that you would take the time to smile at me and say hello. I was also touched by the outward love you spread to others....so maybe this was just a time for me to let you know somehow that you are appreciated... and your husband... so beautiful you both are...." And they were..... and they are!
We also appreciate the care and encouragement extended to mom and dad by their church community at Katy Church of Christ.
A private graveside was held on November 16 at 2 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo. There will be a memorial celebration service sometime in the future.
Memorials can be sent to High Plains Children's Home, P.O. Box 7448, Amarillo, TX 79114 or your local Animal Rescue Services or MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. Any of these will honor her.
Family and friends, I will leave the last word for her to share. She penned this at the bottom of a 2 page guideline on how to take care of things at her death.
"Just remember the good times and know that I love all of you."
