Gene was born on September 27, 1956, in Amarillo to Earl Sr. and Jane Hurst. A lifelong resident of Amarillo, he graduated from Palo Duro High School and remained close to many of his childhood friends throughout his life. Gene had a generous spirit and a deep love for his family and friends. He found joy in cooking and took pride in sharing meals, especially during Sunday gatherings to cheer on the Dallas Cowboys. He also had a love for classic rock and roll and enjoyed relaxing with a good movie.
He is survived by his sons, Gene Hurst III and wife Lindsay, and Blake Hurst and wife Lauren; seven grandchildren, Lauren, Haley, Oliver, Lucas, Jake, Brooke, and Kendall; two nephews, Chad Bryant and Kyle Hurst; and one niece, Monica Hurst.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Jane Hurst passing April 24, 1990 and November 16, 2000 and his brother, Lou Hurst passing June 21, 2022.
Gene will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the love he shared so freely. He will be dearly missed.
