Edward was born April 21, 1945, in Louisville, Ky. He was raised in Jeffersontown, Ky. He was in the Air Force and later worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 30 years. He was retired.
He married Karen Sue Cory on Oct. 31, 1964, in Amarillo.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Shields; his parents, Clarence and Iva Shields; and a brother, Jerry Shields.
Survivors include a daughter, Tammie Cleeton and husband Ron of Amarillo; two sons, Cory Shields and wife Nancy of Cedar Park and Zane Shields and wife Kimberlee of Lubbock; six grandchildren, Rebecca and Sam Cleeton, Jack and Ainsley Shields and Addison and Ethan Shields; two sisters, Deannie Wilson and husband Lee of Russel Springs, Ky., and Darlene Stump and husband David of Taylorsville, Ky.; three brothers, Calvin Shields and wife Joann of Louisville, Brice Shields of Louisville and Lance Shields and wife Mitzi of Louisville; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
