

Ernest C. “Ernie” Davis Jr., 63, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Dan Powers and Bobby Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Ernie was born April 1, 1948, in Amarillo to Ernest and Maurice Davis. He married the love of his life, Lavonna Woods, on Sept. 17, 1966.
Ernie worked for Rock Island Railroad for 10 years, then he went to truck driving. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, drag racing, cooking and working outdoors. Ernie was a hard-working, good Christian man, a wonderful, loving husband and a beloved father and Papa. Ernie had lots of family and friends whom he loved very much, and they loved him. He had a heart of gold. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Carroll Davis Sr. and Maurice Maxine Davis, and a brother, James Neal Davis. Survivors include his wife, Lavonna Davis; two sons, Mark Davis and wife Lashauna and Jeff Davis and wife Alisha, all of Amarillo; two brothers, Mike Davis and Phil Davis, both of Amarillo; two sisters, Beverly Ballard and Carolyn McCarty, both of Dallas; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Sanders and Cindy Backus, both of Amarillo; four granddaughters; two grandsons; his loyal friend, Terry Montgomery of Canyon Lake; and his special companion, his Maltese, Sugar.
