Gail Barnes, 74, of Amarillo, passed away peacefully on Sunday August 29th. She was born on December 31, 1946 in Mesa, Arizona to Roy R. Crisel and Cora Bell Smith. They moved to Seaside, California where she met Ray Barnes, the love of her life. Gail and Ray Barnes moved to Seattle, Washington soon after marrying before finding a place to call home in Amarillo, Texas. Ray and Gail were married for 53 years and raised four beautiful daughters.
She enjoyed sewing Barbie doll clothes for her children when they were young and baby bedding for her grandchildren. She loved gardening and took great pride in the flowers beds that encircled her home. She worked at Walmart for 28 years as a phone operator where she made many amazing friends and was like a mother to most. Mom was also an amazing cook when she wasn’t burning the food in an attempt to avoid cooking. However, dad was wise to her antics, and would eat it anyway without complaint no matter how long it took to chew that charred chunk of mystery meat. Although, she was affectionately known as Mum to us girls (inside joke) she always gave the warmest hugs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Dorthey Boatwright, her brother Buddy Crisel and her husband Weldon Ray Barnes.
She is survived by her children Christina Webster and husband John; Barbara Hiller and husband Tommy; Kandi Barnes and husband David and Lisa Baldwin and husband Robert. Her brother Larry L. Barnes. Grandchildren Craig Durand, Autumn Jewett, Elyse Draper, Alec Baldwin, Blaine Jewett, Bailey Baldwin, Heath Hemelstrand and Dawson Barnes. 10 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you do something nice for somebody else unexpectedly, and without explanation.
