Gwendolyn “Jackie” Hickman, 85 of Amarillo passed away April 9, 2013. Jackie was born November 15, 1927 in Los Angeles to Ned and Mary Helen Oviatt. She married James Hickman, Sr. in October of 1947 in Tijuana, Mexico. There was a second wedding, mainly as a request from her mother, so that family could attend. So they were also married in March of 1948 in Los Angeles, California. They lived in California until moving to Oklahoma in 1959 and then to Amarillo in 1971. Jackie was a homemaker and the best one at that. She adored her family and loved providing her loving care for many years. She enjoyed both cooking and painting. Jackie loved holidays and weddings because they brought her entire family all together. She would do anything for her children and grandchildren and she will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband James Hickman, Sr. and three brothers. Jackie is survived by her sons, James Hickman, Jr. and wife Marie of Amarillo, Howard Hickman of Austin and Harlan Hickman of Amarillo; daughters, Helen Johnson and husband Rick of North Richland Hills and Chandra Graf and husband Mike of Amarillo; grandson, James Hickman III of Amarillo; granddaughters, Janette Savage and husband Casey of Murphy, Christy Sullivan and husband Brian of North Richland Hills, Catherine Haskins and husband Barney of Amarillo, Kathleen Smith of Amarillo, Elizabeth Graf of Amarillo and Autumn Graf of Amarillo; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Tressa, Taryn and Teagan Savage of Murphy, Bryce Sullivan of North Richland Hills, Thomas Hickman, Topanga Haskins and Donavan Thomas all of Amarillo; also by her honorary children, Edna Stanhope, Dawn Freeman, Doug Foglesong, Mike Tibbets, Sandy Rorebeck, Sherry Nichols and their families. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be sent to St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
