James was born July 26, 1926, in Maysville, Okla., to William Benjamin and Ina Little Flippo. He attended school in Maysville, Oklahoma A&M University and Jacksonville Baptist College. He married Helen Irene Hardin on July 8, 1950, in Cayuga. James was a veteran of World War II, was a member of First Baptist Church of Pampa and sang in the Sunshine Choir and special music.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, two sisters and his wife of 38 years, Helen.
Survivors include four daughters, Glenda LaFavers and husband Richard of Victoria, Cecilia Foster and husband Gene and Lanetta and Novelyn Flippo, all of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Ricky LaFavers and wife Kim of Missouri City, Kelli Dillon and husband Nate of United States Air Force Germany, Stephen Foster and wife Malory of Lubbock and Elizabeth Flippo of Amarillo; and five great-grandchildren, Austin, Coleson and Ryan LaFavers and Greg and Zeyn Dillon.
