Jewell was born on July 8, 1922 at home near Dumas Texas to Sydney and Minnie Capps. She passed from this life April 20, 2014. She spent her early days living on a farm near Dumas. After a few years in Dumas, she and her family moved to Vernon, Texas. One of the things she enjoyed the most at Vernon High School was being a member of the pep squad. Jewell graduated from Vernon High School in 1939 and within a year or so she met AJ Moore. They married on January 20, 1941 in Frederick, OK. Jewell and AJ lived in several towns in the south and ended up in Mobile, Alabama where AJ worked in a shipyard as a crane operator. AJ was drafted and served in the Army in Italy. After the war Jewell and AJ moved to Amarillo in 1945 where they built their home. In 1991, after 50 years of marriage, Jewell lost AJ. In 1994, Jewell married Aubrey Stroup and they had about ten really good years before Aubrey died in 2006. As a young person in Vernon, Jewell loved to roller skate. She and her friends would travel from town to town in the Vernon area following the traveling skating rink. She also loved to keep score for the summer baseball games in Amarillo. Jewell was a big Don fan as all her children and son-in-laws attended Palo Duro High School. Jewell worked at Travis Junior High School for twenty years. She loved working with young kids and the great staff at Travis. Jewell had a strong faith which was a big influence on her family. She fought the good fight and finished the race, always demonstrating perseverance. Jewell was a member of Central Church of Christ. Jewell’s family would like to thanks the wonderful caregivers at The Continental, Harrington Assisted Living, Ware Nursing Home and the Hospice of the Southwest for taking care of Jewell. Your professionalism, kindness and Christian attitude were a great help to her.
Jewell was preceded in death by her parents, husband, AJ Moore, husband Aubrey Stroup, and a sister, Neita Shores.
