He was born on May 29, 1940, in Gruver, Texas to Willie Lee & Laura Jean Lyles.Jimmy excelled at leading complex construction projects with limited formal training, working in the construction industry most of his life. He worked for LA Fuller & Sons as a foreman for over 23 years until he retired. If you knew him, you knew that retiring from work did not mean slowing down. He went on to work for George Chapman for another 8 yrs. A construction job brought Jimmy to California, but he brought some Texas along with him – teaching western dance classes in the evening. This is how he met Donna, and they married on September 14, 1981. Jimmy was never one to sit idle & loved to be outside staying busy. You could find him over at his shop working on things, or with the horses down at the barn. He had a love for speed and all things car, tractor, and vehicle related. Jimmy was a licensed pilot & enjoyed riding his Harley with Donna
Jimmy either liked you – or he didn’t – and the animals sure did seem to be of the former. He had a soft spot for all of them and he and Donna were never short on cats, dogs & horses.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 44 years, Donna Irene Lyles; two children, Christopher Lyles and wife Andrea of Lakewood, Colorado, and Allison Horton and husband Steve of Amarillo and Lubbock, Texas; Six grandchildren with Colby Lane, Katy Elizabeth, and Kelsey Grace, Journey, Jennessey & Eli. Special thanks to Jeff Young, DVM, for his continuous support with the animals; Landen & Wendy Slack for their continued support to help Donna. We welcome you to join us in remembrance & celebrate the life of Jimmy on Wednesday, January 22nd at 11:00AM. Antioch Baptist church. 4304 SE 10th, Amarillo Tx.
