Clara Jo (Jody) Ledbetter Bebout, born July 27, 1940, in Tulia, Texas, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy woven with love, laughter, and a gentle strength that touched every life she encountered.
Jody was the youngest of three siblings and the first in her family to be born in a hospital—a small, notable beginning for a woman who would go on to live a life of quiet significance. Known for her soft heart, her quick wit, and a sassy spark that never dimmed, Jody brought light and joy to those around her. She had a deep love for animals and an even deeper love for people, especially her family. As a full-time mother and caregiver, Jody’s life was dedicated to the service of others. Her door, her heart, and her arms were always open. Whether someone needed a warm meal, a place to stay, or simply someone to listen, she gave of herself without hesitation or condition. Jody celebrated the finer things of being a woman—she took pride in her appearance, found joy in small luxuries, and carried herself with grace and a little flair. She was a bit rebellious in the best ways—never afraid to speak her mind or chart her own course.
She is survived by her beloved son, John Bebout, eight grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of her spirit. Jody loved all of her kids deeply and equally—biological or otherwise, her love was always unconditional. To know Jody was to be seen, to be laughed with, and above all, to be loved. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her—and in every act of kindness and compassion done in her name.
A private family gathering will be held to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made, in her honor, to your favorite charity.
She will be missed, but her legacy of love and her “I love you, my darlin’!” will endure forever.
