

Joe Timothy Whitten, 76 of Amarillo passed away August 23, 2014. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel with Jerry Davey officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell. Joe was born July 19, 1938 in Carey, Texas to Henry Earl and Fannie Harbin Whitten. He graduated from Carey High School in 1957. Joe married Dolores Ann Donaldson on June 9, 1962 in Allison, Texas. Joe worked for Ivan Dement, Inc. in road construction, then was a plumber for Care Plumbing for many years before becoming the City Plumbing Inspector for the City of Amarillo, retiring after 21 years of service. Joe and Dolores loved to travel in their motorhome and were members of the Allegro Motorhome Club of Amarillo for many years. Joe was a loving and devoted husband, father and brother and he will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Whitten in 2007 and by his parents. Joe is survived by his son, Scott Whitten and wife Kendra of Amarillo; two brothers, Earl Whitten and wife Norma of Bovina and Billy Whitten and wife Shelia of San Antonio; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family suggest memorials be sent to the Amarillo-Panhandle Humane Society, 3501 S Osage St. Amarillo, Texas.
