Kenneth Erich Greear was born February 8, 1952 at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo. Kenny attended Alice Landergin Elementary, Fannin Junior High, Amarillo High and West Texas State University. He watched his high school burn to the ground his Senior year. Kenny was an Eagle Scout at the age of 14 and continued in Scouting in the Order of the Arrow and earned a Bronze Palm. He attended the Hemisphere in San Antonio while a scout. In 1969 he went to work for JC Penneys. In 1975 he shattered four inches of both bones in his right leg joining 50 other broken legs at Angel Fire Ski Resort including accompanying friend Tommy Lowe which led to a long recovery the same year his nephew Lance was born. In 1977 he purchased his first home and was featured in the Globe News as Singles Buying Homes growing phenomenon. 18 months after this purchase he was transferred by JC Penney to Lawton, OK to open a brand new store at the mall. While in Lawton he and two other single guys, Robert Ward and Dennis Heatherly formed the Bashful Bachelors Association. In 1981 he was transferred to Altus, OK as the Assistant Store Manager and was laid off along with 8800 other managers. Kenny moved back to Amarillo and built a house at Lake Tanglewood and was hired for the best job of his lifetime, Executive Director of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Texas Plains. After ten years with the foundation he invested in a carlot with long time friend Ben Harned who later died in a plane crash. At the age of 62 Kenny retired to deal with Ben’s estate, moving his parents in with him and getting their estate in order.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his mother, Ursula Greear and an older brother, Harold Wayne.
Kenneth is survived by a sister, Linda Kay Miller and husband Mark; a nephew, Lance Miller; a niece, Tabitha Kristine Hoadley and husband Josh and a great niece, Payton Danielle Roller.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Make-A-Wish or your favorite charity.
