

LG was a long time Amarillo Resident. He attended Amarillo High School. After High School he joined the United States Navy serving in the Fleet Air Wing during the Korean Conflict. LG was 93 years old and had been married to his wife Ruby Alvern for 47 years. LG passed away on their 47th wedding anniversary. LG's occupation was as a carpenter and he owned and operated a business installing steel siding. LG loved riding motorcycles. He also loved volunteering with his friend Russell Reneau doing projects around Arden Road Baptist Church. LG was a long time member at Arden Road Baptist Church and he taught with his wife Ruby, fourth and fifth grade boys for over 20 years. Each summer he taught in Neighborhood Bible Time. He also loved volunteering as a chaplain at the Clements unit distributing bible studies to the prison inmates. LG was born at Boise City Oklahoma and as a young man accepted Jesus as his savior.
LG is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ruby Alvern McDowell, his daughter Patty McDowell of Georgia, son Matt McDowell of Georgia, special granddaughter Jennifer Ferrell of the Dallas area, three other granddaughters, six great grandchildren, one great great grandson and numerous nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, ET and Mildred McDowell, his sisters Frankie Wyble, Mickey Bartlett and Shirley Barnett and son Mike McDowell.
Ruby said she is going to miss him calling her "sweet thing".
