

Lena Irene Roberts, 82, of Amarillo, died Thursday, April 5, 2012 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday April 14, 2012, in Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Rev. Max Beggs officiating, under the direction of Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Irene’s home, Saturday, April 14, 2012 after the services. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Irene was born in Friona to Ed and Fern White on March 12, 1930. During her life, she held many jobs, such as baby sitting for her eight siblings. She worked in the garden to help feed them. Irene also worked in the grocery store her father owned, washed dishes at a café in Friona as a teenager, and packed parachutes at the parachute plant. She was an elevator operator in the Fisk Building and served as an LVN at St. Anthony’s, but most of all, she was a loving wife and mother. Irene was led to the Lord through the Al-Anon program. She was loved for leaving the tuna out of tuna casserole, and loved by her grandchildren for not letting them get away with anything. She was especially loved for taking on the responsibility for raising her grandchildren for about three years. Irene was a very special woman.
She is survived by a daughter: Vickie Osenbaugh and husband Todd of Amarillo; grandchildren: Jennifer Martin of San Antonio Tony Martin of Amarillo Michael Roberts of Lake Havasu City, Arizona Erin Osenbaugh of Austin; great grandchildren: Jayden and Jayla Martin of Amarillo, Leah and Mia Roberts of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; brothers: Richard White of Friona Ed White and wife Doris of Friona Raymond White and wife Nancy of Terry, Mississippi; sisters: Sue Hinds and husband Wayland of Canyon, June Cannon,and Lois Gaile Nolte both of Amarillo. Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, other family and friends
Irene is preceded in death by her, parents, Ed and Fern White; husband, Vernie H. Roberts; son, Gordon Steven Roberts; and two sisters, Ann Campbell and Mae Holder; and by her special companion, a Boston Terrier named Missie.
