Peaches was born March 31, 1941, to George and Viola Child in Hollis, OK. Growing up in Phillips, TX, Peaches played every sport she could including tennis, volleyball, and powder-puff football. She loved her Scottish heritage especially having red hair like her dad. After graduating Phillips “Blackhawks” High School, she met the love of her life, Gary, at Frank Phillips College, married, and had four daughters. As a life-long teacher, she could remember every student, parent, and sibling she taught. For most of her career, she taught Kindergarten at Eastridge Elementary, but also taught at Lamar, St. Andrews, and in Stinnett, TX. She coached girls’ soccer at Caprock High School for several years. As a member of Kingswood UMC, she sang in the choir, played handbells, and played softball with Gary and her girls.
Whether we called her Mother, Grandma, or Grandma Peach, she will be dearly missed. In retirement, you could find her by Gary’s side in her recliner watching Westerns, the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Cowboys, cheering for her beloved OU Sooners, find her at Braum’s for a burger and ice-cream, or at her grandchildren’s events. She always had time for her grand and great grandchildren to read books, color, or develop their love for learning and nature. If you met Peaches, you met the sweetest woman who never knew a stranger.
For their epic love story, Peaches and Gary were hardly ever apart for their 60 years of marriage. Peaches passed five days after Gary passed knowing he was waiting for their reunion in heaven.
She is survived by her daughters Gara Martin, Lyra Satterfield, Kira Satterfield, and Vonda Chapman and husband Brent; her grandchildren Tyler Martin and wife Sarah, Cody Martin and wife Virginia, Kelsi Inge and husband Chris, Brennen Chapman and wife Ariel, Cole Chapman, and Brady Chapman; greatgrandchildren Cooper, Kamryn, Natalie, Meredith, Ben, Aiden, Kyler, Hunter, Liam, Paisley, Aurora, and Elliott. She is preceded in death by her husband Gary Satterfield, her parents George and Viola Child and sister Lynn Fluty.
Special thanks to Kindred Hospice and Abundantly Blessed/ Jason’s Bay for loving Lynora as their own.
