Mario was born on December 30, 1958, to Andrew and Lucy Alonzo. He attended Amarillo public schools and graduated from Caprock High School. On December 16, 1979, he married the love of his life, Joann Hinojos, and together they were blessed with four beautiful children. Mario’s devotion to his family was unmatched, and he was a loving husband, father, papa, and friend.
A dedicated truck driver for Panhandle Transport Group for 28 years, Mario was particularly proud to receive an award for safety during his career. In his free time, he enjoyed baseball and softball, and he was an active member of his church, where he worked to feed the homeless and share the love of Christ. Mario's love for Christ was central to his life, and he firmly believed that everything he achieved was made possible because of his faith.
Mario was known for his kind heart, selflessness, and the joy he found in his grandchildren. He loved the time spent with them and their laughter brought him much joy. He was a man of integrity, always striving to do his best in everything, knowing that his children and grandchildren would follow in his footsteps.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Lucy Alonzo, and his daughter, Heather Alonzo.
Mario is survived by his wife, Joann; his children, Christy Singleton and husband Billy, Desiree Alfred and husband Anthony, and Isaiah Alonzo and wife Emily; his grandchildren, Tristyn and Avery Alfred, Adrik Alonzo, Jaden and Malachi Singleton and many loving friends and extended family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
