Mary Mitchell

Mary Mitchell of Amarillo passed away on December 30, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 6, 2025, from 5-7 pm at Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 10 am at Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell Street, with burial to follow at Claude Cemetery.

Mary met her loving husband, Bobby Ray Mitchell, and together they raised their two sons, Allen and Robert. She worked at Amarillo Day Nurseries for over 50 years, where one of the classrooms was named in her honor. She was a hardworking, loving, and caring woman who truly loved life. Mary never met a stranger and devoted herself to her family, especially her grandchildren.

Mary had a deep love for the outdoors, whether it was camping or gardening. She was an avid rock collector and cherished animals, often taking in any creature her family brought her. She was also known as somewhat of an "Animal Whisperer."

She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband.

Mary is survived by her sons, Allen Mitchell and wife Darla, and Robert Mitchell and wife Lori; her siblings, James Cole and wife Marline, Janet Magness and husband John, Judy Quintana, and Jackie Brock and partner Carol; her two grandchildren, Erika Randolph and Jerad Mitchell; and eight great-grandchildren Kara, Levi, Logan, Kinley, Taylor, Bailey, Aiden and Kasen as well as one great-great-grandchild River Reed. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
