

Monroe Woodson Davis, 68 of Amarillo passed away December 23, 2013. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Mr. Samuel O’Dell of Grace Communion Church officiating. Monroe was born February 1, 1945 in Clovis, New Mexico to John and Viola Davis. He joined the U.S. Army straight out of high school and served in the 82nd Airborne. Monroe married Vicky Smedley on February 7, 1970 here in Amarillo. He bought Davis & Son Contracting in 1978 and operated it until retiring and going back to school. Monroe received his Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing and was a Registered Nurse, working at the VA Hospital until retiring once again in September of 2012. He loved gardening and was a man who was always busy, even after retiring. He and Vicky were members of Grace Communion Church for over 40 years. One of his favorite things to do was to visit other veterans and spend time with them. Monroe loved the military and he had a supreme appreciation for the sacrifices each veteran endured during their service to our country. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather and he will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Jerry Davis. Monroe is survived by his wife, Vicky Davis of Amarillo; daughter, Kari Anne Alvarado and husband Joe of Amarillo; son, Keith Aaron Davis of Amarillo; sister, Judy Tow and husband Kenneth of Waco; also by his grandchildren Maddi, Jaren, Brooke, Ava, Caleb, Hunter and Christian.
