Janine McCune Gayhardt, 76, of Amarillo, passed away on February 19, 2026. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell Street. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Family First Church, 6101 S. Bell Street.
Janine was born on April 23, 1949, to John and Veda McCune in Graham,Texas. She was the oldest of five children and proudly embraced her role as mentor, protector, and second mother to her four siblings — a responsibility she took very seriously.
Janine dedicated over forty years of her life to nursing. Her passion was caring for precious children in the pediatric unit, where her compassion and gentle spirit made a lasting impact on countless families. She was a giving, loving, and kind woman who never met a stranger.
Her family was her world, along with her beloved fur babies. She married her soulmate, David Gayhardt, on December 28, 1997. Together they built a life filled with love, travel, Harley rides, and cherished time spent with family. Janine enjoyed watching Twilight movies, collecting fairies, and dream catchers.
She was preceded in death by her father, John McCune, and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
She is survived by her devoted husband, David Gayhardt; her mother, Maxine McCune; her children, Melinda Thompson, Renee Trump and husband John, and Jimmy Ellis; her grandchildren, Josh Thompson and wife Rebekah, Jason Thompson, Destiny Ellis, Cassie Thompson, Anthony Ramos, Mykel Thompson and wife Shantell, Casey Thompson and fiancé Monica, Johnny Trump and wife Bree, and Tim Trump and wife Rhanda; her great-grandchildren, Josh, Maddy, Eli, Jace, RyAnne and Gunner Thompson; Emerson Ledford, Eowyn, Railynn, Sabrina, and Wesley Trump; and Kierra and Hollie Rae Ramos; and her siblings, Brenda Shie, Becky McCune, John McCune and wife Emily, Ron McCune, and husband Kiko and her best friends Toni and Claire.
Janine will be remembered for her nurturing heart, fierce love for her family, and the countless lives she touched throughout her years of service and devotion. Her legacy of kindness and compassion will live on in all who knew and loved her.
