Phyllis Jean Guthrie

Phyllis J. Guthrie, 73 of Amarillo passed away October 28, 2012. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2012 at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Griffith officiating by Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 I-40 East. Phyllis was born in Elida, New Mexico on November 19, 1938 to Louis and Annie Barrett. She was raised in Vega and attended Vega High School. Phyllis married Eugene C. Guthrie on February 26, 1976 here in Amarillo. Phyllis was a very hard worker who raised four children, whom she would do whatever needed to be done to take care of them. Everything she did, she did for her children. After raising her children, Phyllis went into Home Health Care and really enjoyed taking care of the elderly in need. She was also a volunteer who worked with the High Plains Food Bank and also offered her time in helping Second Baptist Church and Beacon Baptist Church. Phyllis was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be truly missed. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene C. Guthrie on March 11, 2012. Phyllis is survived by her three sons; her daughter; two step-children; two brothers; three sisters; a brother-in-law; two sister-in-laws; and also by seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
