Regina A. Smith of Amarillo, Texas, passed this life to be with the Lord on Monday, September 9, 2024. A funeral service will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories on Monday, September 16, 2024 at 2pm. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Regina was born April 17, 1940, in Breslau, Germany to Richard and Agnes Biskup. She had seven brothers and sisters. Regina met Astor Smith while he was stationed in Germany in the Air Force. Astor spoke only English and Regina only German. Despite the language barrier, these two fell in love and were married in 1959. To this union were born four children, Angie, Michael, Eric, and Astor II.
Regina’s journey in life took her from experiencing childhood in Germany during and after World War II to adulthood as a military wife traveling across the United States during Astor’s service in the Air Force. She enjoyed returning to Germany to visit siblings, sightseeing in Europe with her family, volunteering at her church, and babysitting her grandchildren with whom she developed close bonds. She was a long-time member of Cornerstone Worship Center.
Regina was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and mother-in-law. She was a devoted friend to many. She will be remembered for her strong Christian faith, introducing her family to German food and recipes, refusing to wait until Christmas or her birthday to open her gifts, and her silly sense of humor and fun-loving personality. Most of all, Regina will be remembered for the examples of love and faith she demonstrated unfailingly.
Regina was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Astor, and 4 brothers and sisters.
Regina is survived by her children, Angie Garcia and husband Joe of Amarillo, Texas, Michael Smith and wife Cindy of Perryton, Texas, Eric Smith and wife Leasa of Saginaw, Michigan, and Astor Smith II and wife Bobbi of Tulsa, Oklahoma, nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Regina is also survived by siblings Renate Granger, Sybille Baumann, and Lothar Biskup of Germany, sister-in-law Mary L. Raebel and husband Leroy of Denton, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.
