

Rita Burns, 83, passed peacefully from this world on December 7, 2025. She was born in Clarendon, Texas, on August 25, 1942, the youngest of eight children born to the late Ira Horton and Willie Hodges, both of Clarendon. Rita graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1960 and married the love of her life, Ken Burns, in 1962. Together they shared 58 years of marriage until his passing. A devoted homemaker and military wife throughout her married life, Rita created a warm and welcoming home wherever her family was stationed.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ken Burns; four brothers; and two sisters.
Rita is survived by her brother, Bill Horton, and his wife Jolynda of Amarillo; and by her three children:
• Andy Burns of Colorado
• Bonnie Halcom and her husband Rodney of Waco
• Matt Burns and his wife Michelle of Canyon
She also leaves behind four beloved grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Rita enjoyed sewing and crafting in her younger years and was an avid reader throughout her life. She loved working word-find puzzles and especially treasured traveling with her family. Her favorite place in the world was Palo Duro Canyon, a destination she visited with joy for many decades. In her final days, Rita shared a tender message for the ones she loved:
"I don't know what is going on with me, I'm hurting so I gotta go.
I'll call you back tomorrow. Take care.
I love you all.
Bye-Bye."
Rita will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her devotion to family, and the love she carried for everyone close to her. Her presence will be deeply missed, and her memory will remain a blessing.
