Rita Johnston

Rita Estelle Johnston, 99, passed peacefully on September 2, 2022, in the home of her daughter Clydene and son-in-law, Melvin in Gatesville, TX. Services will be held 10:00am Saturday September 10, 2022 at Memory Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 14200 I-27 South. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 I-40 East, Friday, September 9, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00pm.

Rita was born February 10, 1923 to P.D. Hollars and Maude Mae Vanderford in Fort Cobb, OK. She was a proud member of Amarillo Senior Citizens Center for over forty years and enjoyed line dancing, taking trips, playing cards, and visiting with friends. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Sidney Boyce and husband Marion, of Amarillo; son, Donald Johnston and wife Lynda, of Slaton; son, Jim Gressett, of Amarillo; daughter, Clydene Blackwell and husband Melvin, of Gatesville; Vickie Ivie, of Amarillo, and Janell Gressett, of Amarillo. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, twenty-one great-great-grandchildren, and two great-great-great-grandchildren.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents and her eight sisters and brothers, Ella Skaggs, Opal Hall, Raymond Hollars, Arnold Hollars, Roy Hollars, Nadine Valentine, Dale Hollars, and Clyde Hollars, and a grandson, Jamie White. Rita was blessed three good marriages to Albert Sidney Johnston, C.D. Gressett, and George Mann, all of whom preceded her in death.
