Roy Charles McGoffin

Mass of the Resurrection will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 15, 2015, at St Laurence Catholic Church with Father Ed Sweeney officiating. Arrangements are by Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell.

Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery, 14200 I-27, in Amarillo with Navy Military Honors.

Roy was born November 2, 1926, in Weatherford, OK, to Frank and Florence McGoffin. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy from August 1944 to October 1947 receiving the Victory and Good Conduct medals for his service to our nation. He married Venice Eddie on May 21, 1949, in Clinton, OK, and they were married for 58 years. Roy was an active chartered member at St. Laurence Catholic Church. He served as a Eucharistic Minister, was a member of the Legion of Mary, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd and 4th Degrees. He enjoyed building crosses and delivering communion to the sick and homebound. Roy grew up with strong family values and passed those values along to his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the VA Medical Center and BSA Hospice for their care and compassion towards our father and family.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Venice McGoffin, a brother, Junior McGoffin, and a step-dad, Harry Sullivan.

Roy is survived by a son, Charlie McGoffin; five daughters, Haila Swift, Cherie Haney, Renita Pollard and husband John, Krissy McGoffin and Tonya Minor; a brother, Cork McGoffin; six grandchildren, Michael McPeak, Tony Pollard, Kalli Haney, Michelle Sherrod, Justin McGoffin, and Jaycee McGoffin; and three great-grandchildren, Collin Ky, Halo Mae, and Blake James.

The family will receive guests and friends Wednesday at 6 .p.m. at the funeral home. The Rosary will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Laurence Catholic Church For The Poor, BSA Hospice or Battered Women and Children’s Shelter.
