Seferina Gutierrez Lujan, born on May 8, 1944, in Tucumcari, NM joined our Lord and loved ones on January 18, 2026. Sefe, as she was affectionately known, transitioned at her home, on her terms, surrounded by her loved ones.
Sefe was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, strength, and unwavering faith in God. We ask that you remember her not for the way her life ended, but for the way it was lived. She stated that she did not want any pity upon her death because she lived her life.
Sefe lived through good and hard times, but she did exactly that – she lived through it all. If you knew Sefe, you knew her as the center of attention, the light that shined when she entered a room, and the Dancing Queen when the music played. Her theme song “Pretty Woman” by Roy Orbison. She enjoyed creating gifts through her needle work and crocheting. She was also an avid reader. She loved Elvis and visited Graceland several times. Her brightest light shone through her family.
Those who preceded her to the Heavens: Parents Alejandro and Eufracia Gutierrez, Brother Wilfred Gutierrez, Sister Baby Patsy, Ex-husband Lupe Lujan, Brother-In-Law Bill Chambless, Nephew Paul Mares and Niece Autumn Lynch.
The family she is survived by. Her attentive and amazing caregivers: Son Joe and Grandson Meason. Sons: Alex (Claudia), Joe, and Martin. Sisters: Mickey, Fabbie (Ambrose), Patsy, Theodora, Angie, Juana (Aubrey) and Joana. 16 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and 10 (+1 on the way) great great grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Sefe attended St. Anne’s Catholic School and Tucumcari Public School. As a single mother, she pursued and earned her Registered Nurse degree. She dedicated most of her career to working with the most fragile in life in the baby ward. She was inspiration to two nieces, Raquel and Sarah, that have become Nurses working with babies.
Although Sefe's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May her memory be a blessing and reminder to live our lives to the fullest.
