

Sulema Chapa, 69 of Amarillo, Texas passed away on October 24, 2023. Funeral services are scheduled for 2pm, Monday, October 30, 2023 at New Life Church in Amarillo, Texas. The family will receive friends for a viewing from 3-5pm, Sunday October 29, 2023.
Sulema was born on July 7, 1954 in Alice, Texas to Julio De La Cruz and Angelita Soliz. She grew up in Waka, Texas. Sulema was married to David Chapa for 28 years. She had a host of many hobbies and interests that gave her joy; such as playing Bingo, singing gospel music, and spending as much time in church as she could. Sulema was also known for being a wonderful cook. She made the best beef enchiladas, menudo, and tamales. Her children admired her greatly for being such a wonderful mother. Sulema also loved her grandbabies and they were the light of her life. She was almost like a superhero because if her family needed her, she was always there no matter what. Sulema will be remembered most for the way she loved everybody so uniquely and endlessly.
Sulema was preceded in death by her parents; her son, David W. Chapa; her brothers, Armando De La Cruz, Arturo De La Cruz, and Felipe De La Cruz; her sisters, Isabel Pacheco, Maria Chapa, and Sylvia Salinas.
Survivors left to cherish her precious memory are her son, Joe D. Chapa; her daughters Nancy L. Chapa and Julie L. Stevens; her brothers, Julio De La Cruz Jr., Daniel De La Cruz, Santiago De La Cruz, and Israel De La Cruz; her sisters, Olga Jacques and Sara Vela; her 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a host of several other extended family members and friends.
