

Sylvia Pointer Bevers, 93, of Amarillo died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013.Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel with Jerry Davey officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery in Claude. Arrangements are by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St. Sylvia Pointer Bevers was born Aug. 5, 1920, in Comanche County, near Carlton, to George A. and Leona Pointer. Sylvia retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital after 30 years of service. She was an honorary member of DAV Auxiliary and National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She was a Baptist and felt God had truly blessed her life through many difficult challenges. She was a person of modest needs and generous to others. In retirement, she enjoyed quilting, sewing and painting. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Merl Pointer Lummus; and a son, Donald Lynn Taylor.Survivors include a son, Gale Johnson and wife Pam of Amarillo; two brothers, Earl Pointer of Amarillo and Ross Pointer and wife Vivian of Boswell, Okla.; her grandchildren, Todd Johnson of Amarillo and Renee Johnson and husband Danny of Grandview; her great-granddaughters, Rainey and Taren of Grandview; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
