

A visitation will be held on Wednesday December 31st from 5-7pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home 6969 East I-40. Funeral Services will be held January 2nd, 2026, at 10:00 am at Memorial Park Funeral Home, with burial to follow.
"Tommy" was born November 7th, 1944, to James Reeford Banes & Dixie Virgil Plummer Banes in Amarillo Texas. He was the youngest of 3 boys. He was a lifelong resident of Amarillo and attended Palo Duro High School. After high school he began his career in construction, where he was the foreman over numerous crews. He later met the love of his life Phyllis Bartosiewicz and they married on August 6th, 1976. Tommy has 2 children, Tammy Banes of Dallas and Steve Banes of Amarillo. He also gained 2 more children when he married Phyllis; Donna Potter & Daniel Bedwell. Tommy worked in construction for over 30 years. After construction, he began his second career driving coast to coast for ARROW Trucking and CFI Trucking. Tommy received numerous safety awards for his excellent driving. He later finished his work journey with the City of Amarillo, before retiring. Tommy was a huge Nascar fan & Dale Earnhart was his favorite driver. He also loved his many adventures with Phyllis going to the horse races in Ruidoso & Oklahoma City. They often went to the lake & enjoyed fishing, swimming & spending time with their friends. But his most favorite adventures were spent with his grandkids going to the park, going on walks, bike rides, having stayovers & family cookouts. He loved his dogs Charlie Brown and Millie.
He was proceeded in death by his parents James & Dixie Banes, brothers James Robert "Jim Bob" Banes & William Raymond "Billy Ray" Banes and the love of his life Phyllis Banes.
He is survived by his daughter Tammy Banes, his son Steve Banes and wife Denise. His grandchildren Calee Follins and husband Jeff, Carl Westmoreland Jr., Detrick Westmoreland, Braydon Banes, Ashton Banes Morrow and her husband Dillon. Great-grandchildren, Jayden & Brooklyn Westmoreland. Nieces, Sandy Byrum & husband Tom, Deborah Holcomb & husband Bob, nephews Jim Banes, Robert Banes and his wife Jennifer, and many great nieces and nephews.
