Thomas “Tommy” Lee Hollis of Amarillo, Texas passed on September 30th, 2021 surrounded by his family. Tommy was born on September 3, 1950 in Pottstown, Pennsylvania to Mildred and Floyd Hollis. The Hollis family later settled in Snyder, Texas where Tommy attended Snyder High School and graduated in 1969. Tommy made many long lasting friends and still attended his high school reunions. Tommy went to college at San Angelo State and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from University of Houston. While attending San Angelo State, Tommy met Bonnie Harris in 1970 and they were married on June 3, 1972. Together they had three children.
Tommy is remembered for his sense of humor. He was witty and always made people laugh, sometimes at themselves. He often showed his love by picking on you or giving you a nickname. Even in his orneriness, Tommy made everyone feel welcome and delighted in spending quality time with his family and those he loved.
Tommy’s biggest passion was his family. He was an excellent father and husband who was loyal, dependable and steadfast in his love for his wife, children, and grandchildren. His children fondly remember their father being present at all their activities, major life events, and being their number one supporter. His grandchildren affectionately referred to him as “Pappy”. Pappy was always ready to play football, catch, soccer, or take his grandchildren on summer vacations. One of his hobbies was finding old bicycles to restore for his grandchildren.
Tommy’s second biggest passion was restoring and driving classic cars. Tommy was a regular at Amarillo “Cruise Nights” and shared his love for cars with his children and grandchildren. One of his favorite things to do was to take his 1972 Chevelle out with his wife, Bonnie, in the passenger seat. He attended many car shows and won several awards he was very proud of.
Tommy is also remembered for his loyalty and dedication to his lifetime career at Mueller Inc., where he was deeply respected and well-loved. Tommy was not only a phenomenal business man but also made the people he worked with feel like a part of his family.
Tommy was preceded in death by his father Floyd Hollis, grandson Brody Phillips and brother John Greene.
Tommy is survived by his mother, Mildred Hollis, his wife Bonnie Hollis. Three children: daughter Hayley Phillips and husband Bryan, son Jeremy Hollis and wife Brittany, daughter Whitney Hollis and son-in-law Bryson Bell. Three grandchildren: Avery, Hogan, and Beckett Phillips. His sister Carolyn Greene, brother Benny Hollis and wife Nicole, sister Alice Townes and husband Andy and many beloved nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his family and those who were lucky enough to know him.
The funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors in Amarillo, Texas. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 PM in Snyder, Texas. As a lifetime Mason, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tommy’s favorite charities: Shriners Hospital for Children and the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
