Brad was born in Chicago, Illinois where he lived with his parents and brother Craig. Brad’s family later moved to Omaha where he graduated from Benson High School in 1963 and attended the University of Nebraska. After attending college, Brad played drums in country and jazz bands. He was a member of the Kansas City musicians’ union and sold records. He and Craig recorded original jazz compositions together to celebrate their passion for music.
Brad discovered his uncanny ability to manage people and communicate, next he went into management. He managed multiple restaurants and grocery stores. He loved interacting with staff and customers and they became part of his family. He was always quick to help those whose work ethic mirrored his. He was a dedicated and hard worker throughout out his life inspiring those around him to strive to do their personal best. In addition to his work family being motivated by Brad, he also was the inspiration for his daughter’s determination. He lead by example instilling humility, drive, and proving failure isn’t an obstacle but a reason to rise to the challenge.
Throughout Brad’s life he injected humor into everything. He loved watching Jackie Gleason and frequently referenced him in his everyday life. Brad enjoyed horseracing, watching Cornhuskers football, billiards, being a devoted father, and especially watching his grandchildren grow. When he wasn’t at the track or watching football, he could be found helping his grandkids with homework and playing games. Brad lived with Todd and Shelly (daughter) later in life, and shared in his grandkids lives daily. Brad thought of Todd as the son he never had and loved to talk about life and politics together. Brad will be deeply missed by his family Craig Johnson & Shelly, Todd, Justice, and Gage Ouverson.
