David Edwin Webber, 69, of Ankeny and formerly of Waterloo, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. A Celebration of Life Open House will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2014 from 4 – 7 PM at Ankeny Funeral Home, 1510 W 1st St, Ankeny.
David was born on August 30, 1944 in Waterloo; the son of Walter and Ester Coffin Webber. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1963 and began working at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works where he was a member of UAW Local 838, retiring in 1994. David married Sharon Volker in 1964 in Waterloo and they later divorced. He married Randi Woods on May 5, 2012 in Woodward.
David had a servant’s heart. He lived with the belief “I like to help” and loved to help others. If you needed help, David was there. He volunteered for many years with the Boy Scouts and was a member of the ORFs—Old Retired Fellows—a group of retired volunteers who do various projects for the Boy Scouts.
David loved the wilderness and was a true vagabond at heart. He loved to travel, living out of his RV and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a real outdoors man.
David is survived by his wife, Randi, of Ankeny; children, Troy (Aleigha) Webber of Forest City, Cortney (Anne) Webber of Woodward, Melanie Webber of Boone, Heidi Peyton, of Waterloo, Tracey (James) Williamson of Waterloo, Josh Woods, Michael Woods and Sammi Woods, all of Ankeny; 10 grandchildren; sisters, Mary Catherine Jordan of Tripoli and Carolyn (Ernie) Maas of Toledo and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert and James Webber and a sister, Dorothy Hunt.
As a show of sympathy, and in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Mid Iowa Council of Boy Scouts. On-line condolences may be expressed at www.AnkenyFuneralHome.com.
