Helen Julia Schmidt

Helen Julia Schmidt 84, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2010 surrounded by loved ones. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 am Tuesday June 22, 2010 at St. Mary/Holy Cross Catholic Church in Elkhart. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Monday June 21, 2010 at St. Mary/Holy Cross Catholic Church in Elkhart.

Helen was the youngest child of Edward and Julia McClavy, born on May 22, 1926 in St. Marys, Iowa. Helen McClavy met Albert Anthony Schmidt and they were married on January 12, 1952. To that union were born their four children; Deborah, Edward, Michael, and Christine.

Helen enjoyed being around family and attending her grandchildren’s school and sporting events.

This sweet gentle woman will be missed by her husband of 58 years, Albert; children Debi (Al) Stokka, Cambridge, IA; Ed (Deb) Schmidt, Ames, IA; Mike Schmidt, Billings MT; and Chris (Paul) Schmidt, Laurel, IA; grandchildren, Shannon Clayton, Julia Schmidt, Nicole Schmidt, Tyler Schmidt, Michael Schmidt, Ethan Schmidt and Albert Schmidt, brother Michael C. McClavy, Des Moines, IA; two great grandchildren, four step grandchildren and six step great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and special family friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John (Jack) McClavy and Patrick McClavy.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the Friday-night club just for being there and a special thank you to Dr. Carol Frier.
