89, passed away on April 10, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery in Van Meter, IA.
Johnny was born in Des Moines, IA on April 25, 1930 and raised by his grandparents, John and Hattie Burns. He attended and graduated from Des Moines East High School. Johnny enlisted in the United States Army on October 19, 1951. He served in active duty during the Korean War for two years before being honorably discharged. He later went on to work for The Firestone Tire & Rubber Company for 32 years. After his retirement, Johnny became a deacon for the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Ankeny.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents and his mother, Margaret Burns.
Johnny is survived by his god-daughters, Bobbie Thies and Li Kudra; nephew, Rex (Nancy) Jordan; and his honorary family at Cornerstone Baptist Church.
