Kathryn Karoyl Platts

Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, 510 E 1st St, Ankeny, IA 50021, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. Fr. Jason Lee officiating. Services will be livestreamed from the link on the funeral home website. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ankeny Funeral Home, 1510 West First Street, Ankeny, Iowa.

Kathryn Karoyl Platts was born on May 19, 1952, in Des Moines, Iowa, to parents Frances (Stiles) and John Kozak. She is the oldest of two children. She graduated from Mason City High School. She began working at Northwestern Bell and retired from Qwest in 2001. She then changed careers and begin working as an academic advisor at Iowa State University. Her greatest joy was seeing her students complete their academic goals.

Kathy married Robert Platts on June 18, 1971, in Mason City, Iowa. They settled in Ankeny in 1976. They had two children. They were active in the Jaycees. Kathy completed her undergrad and master’s degree as a working adult. She is an alumnus of Upper Iowa University and Drake University. In addition, Kathy was a lifelong crafter beginning with cross stitching and ending with quilting.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Bob; daughter, Kristin Mauro (Steven Ricklefs) of Salem, Ore.; her beloved Chihuahua, Bella; her sister, Kasi Krehbiel of Bondurant, Ia.; several cousins, several brothers in-laws and sisters-in laws; several nieces and nephews; daughter-in-law and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Kyle; her parents, and in-laws.

The family of Kathy would like to thank the staff of Mercy One Hospital for the care they provided.

Memorials may be directed to the family of Kathryn Platts, and will be donated to a charity of their choosing.
