Luis Miguel Acosta Ortega, 67, of Denver, Colorado, died unexpectedly Thursday, February 26, 2026, at home. Visitation for friends and family of Luis will take place on March 16th, 2026, from 10:00am-11:00am at Ankeny Funeral Home (1510 West First Street, Ankeny, IA, 50023) A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, March 16th, 2026, at Ankeny Funeral Home, followed immediately by burial at Oralabor Cemetery (515 SE Oralabor Rd, Ankeny, IA, 50021). Friends and family are invited back to the funeral home following the burial for a time of food and fellowship.
Luis was born April 15, 1958 in Temastian, Jalisco, Mexico, the oldest son of Salvador
Acosta and Ofelia Ortega. Luis grew up in Villa Guerrero, Jalisco and later moved to the United States in 1980.
He settled in Alliance, Nebraska, where he married his first wife, Darla, and started a family. The family moved to Des Moines, Iowa in the early 1990’s. Luis lived and worked in the Des Moines area until moving to Denver, Colorado in 2017.
Luis was a kind, gentle, and generous person, always willing to help. Luis was a hard worker, admired by bosses and co-workers alike. He enjoyed fishing, watching baseball games and traveling with his wife Nancy.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy; daughter, Maria(Roberto) Regalado; brothers, Roberto(Crystal) Acosta, Gilberto(Mary)Acosta, Mario (Theresa) Acosta; sisters Rosa(Sabino)Yarsaba-Acosta, Leticia(Daniel) Garcia, and Esmeralda(Martin)Hernandez, stepdaughter, Joanne (Daniel) Albertsen; granddaughters, Araceli (Isaac) Dawson, Abigail, Valeria, Marissa and Maxine Regalado; grandson, Dante Albertson-Russo, along with 23 combined nieces and nephews.
Luis was preceded in death by his mother and father, his son, Adrian Acosta and step-daughter, Amy Albertsen.
