Marlin Marshall Luing

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at Ss. John and Paul Catholic Church in Altoona (1401 1st Ave S, Altoona, IA 50009) with burial services to follow at Berwick Cemetery. A Luncheon will follow burial services at the church. Visitation will be held from 4:30-7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 with a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. at Ss. John and Paul Catholic Church in Altoona (1401 1st Ave S, Altoona, IA 50009).

Marlin Luing was born to Norman and Beverly (Hall) Luing in Orange County, CA on September 30, 1953. He graduated from Saydel High School in 1972, and was united in marriage to Carol (Behrens) Luing on May 2, 1981. The couple made their home in the Bondurant area, and were blessed with two sons.

Marlin was a transport driver for Casey’s for many years and then an equipment operator with Polk County for over 20 years, and retired in 2015. He was a proud union member of AFSCME and a union steward for his local.

Marlin was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing trips every summer to Canada and Minnesota with his two sons, family and friends. His family was always his priority and he loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren at family dinners.

Marlin served Ss. John and Paul Catholic Church as a parishioner and assisted with past June Jubilee celebrations.

He was preceded in death by his father; Norman Luing, and nephew; Adam Luing.He is survived by his wife of 34 years; Carol Luing of Bondurant, IA, sons; Joseph (Christina) Luing of Ankeny, IA, and David (Tiffany) Luing of Bondurant, IA, grandchildren; Constance and James Luing as well as an expected grandson on the way, mother; Beverly Luing of Berwick, IA, sister; Janet Banning of Ankeny, IA, brother; Dan Luing of WI, and many relatives, in-laws, nephews and nieces.

We will cherish our memories of a man who lived life to the fullest and taught us much about what is important in life.
