Wayne Elwin Hamilton was born May 7, 1934 in Mason City, Iowa to Floyd and Bertha (Davis) Hamilton. He grew up and received his education from Charles City. Following graduation, Wayne enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country with pride. In 1963, Wayne was honorably discharged from the Air Force before starting his career with Northwestern Bell as an outside plant engineer.
On November 3, 1957 Wayne was united in marriage to Betty Lou Johnson in Nashua, Iowa at the Little Brown Church. The couple made their home in Ankeny and were blessed with two sons, Mike and Scott.
Wayne was a 50 year member of the Boy Scouts and earned the highest adult honor of Silver Beaver. Wayne’s extensive service to scouting involved many honors including Vigil Honor and District Award of Merit. Wayne served in many leadership capacities including Scoutmaster of Ankeny Troop 182 for many years.
Wayne was an avid bicyclist and outdoorsman, enjoyed cars, and was outgoing in the community of Ankeny and had many friends. Most of all, Wayne loved spending time with Betty, his sons, and grandchildren who all held a special place in his heart. Wayne was a mentor to many young people. He was a great encourager and example of integrity and character to many.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty; son, Scott (Kathy) Hamilton; grandchildren, Danielle, Jon, and Jordan Hamilton; and brother, Robert (Patricia) Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Mike Hamilton.
