I know Wayne from his visits to Ace Hardware.  He and I would go back and forth about our rivalries - I’m a Cubs fan, he’s a Cards fan….I’m a Raiders fan, he’s a Chiefs fan.  Each time Wayne came in he’d ask, “Have you changed your mind yet?”  I would say no, have you??  I so looked forward to each time he came in.  He’d search me out and if I missed saying hello - I’d search him out to get our banter started.  I’m so heartbroken of the loss of such a wonderful man.  My condolences to your family. Wayne will be greatly missed, always a smile and a waive and the occasional joke.  His love for his work was evident as you walk our campus.    We were blessed to have known him and it was truly a blessing working with him and seeing his passion for life and all things living.  

I worked with Wayne for 10 years at Wes Des Moines School. He was a fun guy to work with and have sports conversations. He always asked about my son's baseball games.
A caring loving person that will be missed!!

No one cared more about his position and responsibilities than Wayne.  He cared for old Valley stadium as of it was his own.  When new Valley stadium was built he was sad that he didn't have "grass" to take care of any longer.  But, once the artificial surface was installed Wayne immediately responded by "how can I make this the best facility around". 

Wayne simply cared.  He cared about making our facilities the best they could be. 

Go rest in peace my friend knowing your good work here is done.  May God bless you and comfort your family in this most difficult of times.

Wayne and I worked together at the school district maintenance crew for roughly 10 years. Many days we worked on projects together and became very good friends. His kind heart and gentle nature were rare qualities to find and I never heard him speak to anyone in an unkind manner.  My wife and I both thought the world of him and will miss him so much. Our condolences to his family at this tragic time. He was a very special man.

Working with Wayne was an absolute joy.  I only had the pleasure of working with him for the past year and a half, but it did not take long to see how much beauty Wayne brought to Luther Park.  He made our grounds absolutely stunning and was an example of our core values with his kind gentle heart.  I already miss the greeting he gave me each morning as I pulled in the parking lot, where he was hard at work doing what he loved.  His memory will live on in the beautiful flowers that he tended to with such love.  

Wayne has been my friend and mentor for 19 years. I and others ask for his help and he freely gave his time and knowledge to serve others. He always took time to listen and be supportive without criticism. Too few of us listen to the concerns of those around us. One of the good humans I have known. 

On behalf of the residents of Rose Glen at Luther Park we would like to express our profound sympathy to Wayne's family as they try to cope with this truly tragic loss in their lives.
We also want to thank Wayne for making our grounds -the flowers, bushes and trees, a place of beauty again.  Wayne and his knowledge turned what had become a virtual wasteland back into something that the residents here and people venturing into our neighborhood could truly appreciate the beauty of.  Be assured that Wayne knew how we felt about him and the work he did while he as here.  Not a day went by that someone was not stopping him and complimenting him on how great a job he had done.

Wayne was always a pleasure to talk to at work. He called the Housekeepers his “Blue Angels”. He was always joking around with us on breaks while we all shared our snacks. He always had a smile on his face. Wayne would fill all the residents bird feeders and bring a smile to their face. If anyone needed anything he was always there to help. Wayne brought life to the garden at Luther Park that was not there before. He changed lives at Luther Park and brought joy and life to the flower gardens. He will be missed. Prayers go out to the family. 

To be greeted each morning at work by this gentle soul has been a true blessing to me.  His smile was contagious and his demeanor reminded me on each encounter that we are here to lift each other up. I had the best walks into work not only because they took me around his beautiful gardens but also because he helped me reset my focus for the day.  Kindness mattered to Wayne.  May we all be able to spread it like he did.
I will miss you everyday, Wayne!

Wayne was quite possibly the most grateful and humble man I have ever met. Wayne was a friend to all that crossed his path and he will be greatly missed.  He touched so many people each in his own unique way. My prayers and thoughts go out to his family during this difficult time. What a wonderful human being and a true gift Wayne was. Thanks for sharing him with us.
